ANDREW WALESCH AND HIS ORCHESTRA PERFORM
THE MUSIC OF FRANK SINATRA AND TONY BENNETT!
FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND AT TLHD
JUNE 13: MY WAY
A Minnesota treasure, Andrew Walesch is a song stylist of the great jazz and pop standards of the 20th Century. On Friday, June 13, he will perform MY WAY, a tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, and the Sultan of Swoon: Frank Sinatra. Pianist and singer, Andrew captures the phrasing and timing of the singer/actor who said, “You only go around once, but if you play your cards right, once is enough.” Andrew mines Sinatra’s songbook with his ten-piece big band, one that includes “Fly me To The Moon,” “My Way,” “That’s Life,” and “New York New York,” among many many more.
JUNE 14: TONY BENNETT, A CHANCE ENCOUNTER
After a chance 30-minute encounter with Tony Bennett, Andrew Walesch spent many years preparing his homage to the singer that Frank Sinatra called “the best singer in the business.” Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto, Bob Hope urged him to use Tony Bennett as his stage name. Andrew’s tribute to his hero may include “Rags to Riches,” “Body and Soul,” “The Good Life,” and, of course, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” Woven through the hit songs is Andrew’s very personal account of meeting and eating with his musical icon. Saturday, June 14. It is not only Father’s Day Eve, but it is our country’s National Flag Day.

SCARECROW ON FIRE!
By Kevin Kling
Produced by Illusion Theatre (Minneapolis)
August 12-15
In this year of Wicked, the prequel to the Wizard of Oz, storyteller extraordinaire Kevin Kling has penned a laugh-filled and irreverent sequel, entitled SCARECROW ON FIRE! The three Oz amigos, bored in their Oz comfort, respond to a psychological cry from their old pal, Dorothy. Using the ruby slippers she left behind, the boys make the reverse trip to Kansas. Their search leads to a desperate Dorothy caught in another kind of whirlwind and a Wizard that uses his prodigious skills of persuasion as a radio DJ on WOOZ. Performed by a stellar cast, accompanied by the iconic music of the era, and enhanced by cinematic scenes from the silent 1925 Wizard of Oz with nods to the 1939 version we all know and love, SCARECROW ON FIRE! is both breathtaking and heartwarming.
LOVE AND BASEBALL
by Jerry Montoya
Produced by B Street Theatre (Sacramento)
July 22-26
In the romantic comedy LOVE AND BASEBALL, a chance meeting sparks love between Will and Michele, but due to poor timing and the reality of life, they strike out twice. If fate gives them another shot at the plate, will they hit or miss? Like the pristine moments of an unforgettable baseball game, love is also a sport of luck, skill, and timing. LOVE AND BASEBALL speaks to the force of love, the power of connection, and the admiration of a sport played like an art form.
THE ROOT BEER LADY
by Kim Schultz
Originally produced by The History Theatre (St. Paul)
July 15-19
The indomitable Dorothy Molter, known as The Root Beer Lady, was the last legal non-indigenous resident of the Boundary Waters. A fascinating woman who made her own way in a man’s world. She was a true trailblazer and the kind of person that becomes a folk hero around whom a mythology springs up. Funny and passionate, THE ROOT BEER LADY explores her independence, fortitude, and love of nature. Molter pushes back against the premise that her time in the North Woods made her the “Loneliest Woman in America,” as the Saturday Evening Post proclaimed.
PROOF
By David Auburn
Produced by Gremlin Theatre (St. Paul)
June 24-28
PROOF is a literary work of art, beautifully encompassing themes of academia, gender, relationships, grief and mental health. Captivating and thought provoking, a triumph of writing, PROOF is the story of a woman who took care of her genius mathematician father for years, as he deteriorated due to mental illness. When he dies, she is left wondering if she has inherited her father’s illness along with his academic prowess.
