TLHD Board of Directors
CHAMPIONS OF COMMUNITY CONNECTION. Our Board of Directors are a dynamic team of leaders whose unwavering commitment propels our organization to new heights. This diverse group of individuals are deeply rooted in our community and united by a shared love for our mission. Our Board Members are the guardians of our Organization’s mission and values, and they bring a wealth of experience, talent, and enthusiasm to TLHD. Their collaborative efforts enhance our community and steer us toward a sustainable future where excellence in the arts enriches the lives of all who engage with our work.
Katie Eiser,
Board President
Katie has been a member of the board since 2020. She was raised in Alexandria and currently lives in Minneapolis (by way of Louisville, Kentucky and New York). Katie has a BA in communications journalism from the University of St. Thomas and is employed by CCF (formerly Clarity Coverdale Fury), an advertising agency. She has volunteered with Minnesota Opera (Tempo), Kentucky Opera (YPOP), and the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Friends of the Institute).
As an avid theater goer, Katie is thrilled to serve on the THLD Board. In her spare time she enjoys running, the live music scene, theater and opera performances, visiting local breweries, cooking, baking, and in true Minnesotan fashion, competing in the State Fair’s baked goods division. And in the summer she’s at the cabin enjoying the lake with her family and friends.
Philip Eidsvold, Vice President
Phil has been a member of the board since 2020 and has been a TLHD super fan for over 35 years! And during that time, his passion for the organization has grown immensely. He served on TLHD’s Board of Directors from 2011-2020 and as chair of the Board from 2016-2018. Phil earned his BA in Organizational Communications and French from Gustavus Adolphus College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Professionally, Phil is a VP at One10, a full service performance improvement and events agency in Minneapolis. A resident of Edina, Philip lives with his Partner Ty Baucum and his amazing Golden Retriever, Grace Louise. Other volunteer positions include acting as the Board Chair for the National Lutheran Choir. In the summer, you’re likely to catch Phil and Ty enjoying the chain of lakes in Alexandria.
Mark Manbeck, Treasurer
Mark has been a member of the board since 2023. After graduating Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa with a B.A. in Business Administration and Economics, he embarked on a 40-year career with Wayzata based TCF National Bank. Mark’s banking focus was Commercial Real Estate finance and overseeing the bank’s Private Banking division. Mark has served on the boards of two national nonprofit organizations, was an 8-year Commissioner for the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority and served in advisory roles for the Hennepin Theatre Trust and the Frank Theater.
Mark particularly enjoys all that the Lakes Area has to offer during the short, but activity-packed summers. Mark and his partner have three dogs, Luther, Schneider and Rainy, all of whom enjoy spending as much time on water as possible at their Maple Lake home.
Other areas of interest include biking, entertaining and keeping up with cultural events.
Kathy Grundei, Secretary
Kathy has been a part-time resident of Alexandria since 1987. In 2015 Kathy opened Artscape Studio for creating and selling her art. Her areas of interest include abstract and realistic styles using collage, mixed media and watercolor.
Kathy has an art degree from St. Cloud State University and an MEd. from Hamline University. She taught art in a number of K-12 school districts for 35 years and worked as a Program Specialist for Arts Integration with the Perpich Center for Arts Education. Consulting with school districts state-wide, she worked with teacher teams to integrate the arts into all content areas.
Kathy holds a number of awards for her teaching of art that includes Faculty Emerita from The Blake School in Minneapolis, Minnesota Art Educator of the Year, Minnesota Elementary Art Educator of the Year, Middle School Teacher of the Year, Distinguished Service for Arts Education and a Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Cloud State University. Teaching is still a part of her life, she teaches Community Education with the Alexandria School District and classes in her studio.
Her greatist achievements have been co-chairing the writing of the MN State Standards for Visual Art, Dance, Music and Theater and shepherding them through the MN Legislature, being a member of various arts panels including a board member of Minnesota Alliance for the Arts, and President of Art Educators of MN.
Terri Bursch
Terri has been a member of the TLHD board since 2020. She has lived in Alexandria since 1991 and shares in the ownership of Bursch Travel where she has had a role in management since 2012 and the opportunity to travel the world! Terri graduated with a nursing degree and held the roles of Director and Regional Vice President at Portamedic for 32 years, responsible for fiscal management, sales growth, and the quality and service levels throughout her region. Portamedic provided in-home medical exams for consumers applying for life insurance policies throughout the US. Terri is currently Past-Chair of the Knute Nelson Foundation Board, a 30-year member of Lakes Area Professional Women, a committee member for her church and is involved and supports many other organizations in our community. She loves everything our beautiful lakes area has to offer - the theaters, the wineries, the breweries, boating, paddle boarding, golfing, snow shoeing, walking, and biking the trails. Spending time and enjoying life with family and friends are her favorite times!…
Jon
Steinbring
Jon is excited to be a new member of the TLHD Board of Directors! He is “almost” a life long resident of Alexandria and enjoys being active in the community.
He is a local business owner, a 40 year charter member of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and is very involved in the Legacy of the Lakes Museum and Gardens serving on the Board for 8 years including the position of President.
Jon and his wife Sheryle have both enjoyed TLHD performances since the early 1970’s. Sheryle was a volunteer at the theatre in high school. They enjoy traveling and spending Summers in the Alexandria lakes area.
Photo to come.
Matt Clark
Matt joined the TLHD board in February of this year (2025). He has been in the audience for years, but more recently became interested in the history and uniqueness of the facility and its buildings. He hopes to make a significant contribution to TLHD by focusing on restoring this history by offering some love to the older buildings on campus. The character and charm of the campus and its buildings, which date back to 19--, make TLHD an institution in Alec and one the community values.
Matt is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota with a background in solid waste recycling and renewable energy. He currently directs municipal waste recycling projects all around Minnesota and the Country. While crisscrossing the state with his wife, Melanie, they fell in love with the Crosby home on Lake Carlos, which they purchased in 2014. They are painstakingly restoring the home, which is of a similar vintage as the TLHD lodge.
Matt and Melanie hail from Nebraska, where they met in college. In 1999, after several locations and three kids, they were asked to relocate to Minneapolis from Charlotte, NC. The HR director told them that Minnesota was the hardest place to get people to move to and the hardest to get them to move from. They found both to be true! They are happy to be members of the Alexandria Community.
